This study will be divided into 3 main sections. In the first section of the study, the past development of the area regarding its emergence as an industrial location will be traced out. Its situation in the past in relation to the types of industry existent, various transport and other amenities and its sources of labour supply and demand. In the second section attention will be drawn to the study of its present situation. Similarly, its prevailing industries, various forms of land tenure, construction of such industrial premises, and the existing amenities wil also be illustrated. Also in this part of the study, defects of the subject area which is a consequence of its land use will be discussed in further detail. These are environmental problems, for instance, air and noise pollution, congestion of both industrial premises as well as traffic, illegal squatter settlements problem etc. Lastly, in this part of the study, the co-relation of the subject area with its immediate neighbourhood will be discussed. Attention will be given to the contribution of these surrounding areas to the viability of the area under study and on the other hand, its effects on the development of the neighbourhood. It follows therefore in the third section that various proposals will be suggested to remedy the defects of the area. Additionally, policies which are considered as essential to promote further development of the area will also be suggested. Also included within this section are the various obstacles associated with such proposals and policies. Finally, this study will be concluded by recommending the most appropriate measures which should be taken into consideration by the government if it decides to launch a programme for upgrading the subject area. Author's opinion with regard to the practicability and the possibility of success of such recommendations will be also incorporated in this final section.
