Abstract:
This dissertation is a study of the economic and legal aspects of tin industry in West Malaysia and also the methods of valuing mining land pertaining to tin, particularly the present method adopted by the mines Department, with the objective of viewing the factors that one must be familiar with before being able to do a proper valuation of any mineral property. The first part is basically a background study of the tin industry; identifying the present and potential tin bearing areas, studying their properties and the tin industry's role in the country's economy. Problems facing the tin industry are discussed to give an insight and a greater understanding of this country's important export earner. The second part deals with the geology of mining land particularly with regards to the nature of mining ground and factors affecting the extraction and recovering of mineral from the grounds; all are factors affecting values. Various methods of extraction are discussed in respect of their suitability of use according to the nature of ground and the distribution of deposits. The present economic features affecting tin production as well as analysis of the tin market are looked into before studying the various methods of valuation..
