Abstract:
The usage of composite materials is very new in the Malaysian industry, and rather limited. The composite material technology is far behind compared to developed countries. There is a great importance to upgrade the field of composite materials as an alternative resource, especially, in the aircraft or aerospace design and manufacturing industries. Fibre composites have several attractive design attributes for use in structures and structural componebt. In addition to the well known high strength and stiffness to density ratio, fibre composite exhibit high tensile fatigue resistance, notch insentivity, ease of fabrication and lower scrap rate. This project deals with the analysis of various mechanical chareacteristics of metal/fibre composite of sandwich panel. The samples consist of a miximum of four laminaes, whereby the outer layers are metal (aluminium) and the core is fibre-glass; stacked in sandwigh structure. these samples are analysed using the Tensile Test in orderto determine the mechanical chareacteristics. A study is also done based on the Lamination Constitutive Theory to determine the macromechanical characteristics of laminae and laminate.
