Summary

A state-of-the-art synthesis of the biomedical literature in which the numerous hypersusceptible segments of the population-with respect to pollutant toxicity-have been identified and quantified. Reviews previously recognized high-risk groups and identifies new high-risk groups. Also presents numerous ideas for potential research projects. Considers the applications of this knowledge to environmental health management problems, emphasizing a methodology for future highway sitings and the development of cost/benefit analyses in the economic health assessments of environmental/occupational health standards.
