Abstract:
This dissertation is a study into the field of the Management of Office Buildings in West Malaysia and seeks to bring out some principles of sound office building management. In outline, this dissertation is divided into five parts. Part A introduces property management as an evolving profession and in order to appreciate property management and its practice, one needs to understand the general principles of management. It further expounds on the origin, objectives and functions of property management. The last chapter of part A talks about how property management may be carried out by the owner himself or by a professional property manager. Part B sets out the procedures necessary to develop a plan or programme for the building as soon as a property manager takes over the management of the building. Part C considers the central activity of property management, namely the marketing process which entails a good knowledge of the existing market skills required of the property manager right from the time he advertises for sale or letting till he secures a lease agreement with a tenant. Part D talks about those activities and functions of the property manager that belong to the administrative process of his business. Part E covers the maintenance process of property management whih relates to the physical care of the building and its services.
