Abstract:
This project has been successfully carried out to build a prototype of an eggs sorting machine. The machine is semi-automatic which consist of three main components ; the programmable logic controller(PLC), pneumatic cylinders and valves, and strain gauge transducer. The PLC, as its name implies, served as the controller of the machine. It is programmed to control the movement of pneumatic cylinders and to take reading from strain gauge transducer. The design of this machine basically resemble the automation of machine. However, due to cost constrain the machine are not fully automated. The experience and knowledge gained from this project is valuable for the machine automation application. An this is one of the objective of the project. The machine made is simple, functional and relatively cheap. However, the results shows that improvement of the sensitivity and reliability of the strain gauge transducer is needed to improve the efficiency and sorting rate of the machine. This report covers the topic of design overview, preliminary studies, the final design, detail design, and recommendations.
