This introduction to microcomputer-based industrial control is addressed to plant personnel who have an engineering/technical background but are unfamiliar with computers and electronics, and the book is successful in what it sets out to do. Microprocessors, peripherals, and interconnections are described at a simple level, with clear text and good illustrations. This is a British book, published in 1986 under a slightly different title. The US publisher appears to have reprinted it for the US market without any changes-a questionable decision. There are significant differences in jargon; and illustrations and references are all to British manufacturers. The author is not identified-neither an affiliation nor the full name is given. Within its limited objective this is a serious book that deserved better from its US publisher.-G. Weiss, Polytechnic University
