Abstract:
Manufacturing planning and control is responsible for the planning and control of the flow of materials through the manufacturing process. Some firms make a small number of different product while others make a greater number of products. Because of the large amount of data and the number of calculationneeded, the system will usually have to be computerbased. The time and labor required to do calculations manually is extensive and forces a company into compromises. Here, comes in the role of Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP II). The major problem that a company faced in changing from the traditional production control system to the Manufacturing Resource Planning is the process of implementation. The implementation process involves stages of education and training, ongoing monitoring, and totalcommitment from the top management to peoduce a successful impelmentation. Besides, the system requires a high level accuracy of the bill or materials, routings, and inventory status in order to produce a meaningful output. After the system has been implemented, the system is necessary to be evaluated based on the current conditions. This will point out the areas to be improved and acations to be taken to achieve a higher MRP II class user. At the end of the thesis, a PRODSTAR Tutorial is provided to give an idea and hand on enxperience to the reader.
