Abstract:
The project for this dissertation was done based on a ffew onjectives and the project scopes. The objectives were to design, fabricate and carry out experiments on a solid waste incineration unit to determine the emission of burnable gases from a pyrolysis reaction during combustion. The scope, includedfor the incinerator to be a single combustion unit with a batch feed unit for the incineration of cocunut shells. All this was done in order to locatea secondary combustion unit for future development of the project. First of all, the designing required basic knowledge of incinerators and than the fabrication was done based on the selected design. Fabrication included variousincinerators and than the fabrication was done based on the selected design. Fabrication included various incinerator components such as stack, feeder, ash removal, as well as air control and measurement equipment such asmanometers and orifices. Once all this was done the experiments were carried out onin order to determine the existence of the burnable gasses and than the mostsuitable location for the secondary combustion unit. The combustion of 4 kilograms of coconut shells at various sizes at a air flow rate of 1.053 m3/min was proof of the exixtence of the burnable gasses abd the location was determined as about one and a half meters above the present stack.
