Summary
This is a companion volume to Rural Land Uses and Planning'' by R. Burnell Held and D.W. Visser. It deals with the planning of the future uses of land with special emphasis on land planning for multiple purposes (e.g. agriculture, outdoor recreation, nature preservation, landscaping, mining, housing, etc.) Eighteen examples of planning are given in the book. These cover several types of areas such as newly reclaimed land, rural areas, mining areas, urban fringes, coastal areas and new towns in many different parts of the world. For each example, the book describes the goals and objectives, the planning process, the use of scientific information, the implementation and the evaluation of the project. The important questions of conservation and development are also discussed.
