Paz presents 20 structural dynamics computer programs assembled in a software package for interactive microcomputer use. The programs are written in BASIC and coded for the IBM-PC using the Advanced Basic interpreter. Practicing engineers, advanced undergraduate and graduate students interested in obtaining immediate solutions to structural dynamics problems will find this book of value. A disk containing all of the programs is attached to the back cover of the volume. This book cannot stand on its own, however, since the development of the mathematical and mechanical concepts employed in the various computer programs are sketchy. Instead, it should be used in conjunction with Paz's Structural Dynamics: Theory and Computation (2nd ed., 1985). More and more engineering books are appearing with attached programmed disks. Academic libraries should consider how they can deal with this new development in such a way that the disks are not damaged or removed from the books.-J.F. Carney III, Vanderbilt University
