INRODUCTION : The report is prepared to give a general overview of the whole thesis work. It defines in general the aim, the problem area, the process and approach which leads to a design solution. The report has been prepared in two parts: (i) The project - its design problem and solution; (ii) Timber and its related research work. AIMS OF THESIS : The aim is to explore the posibilities of using timber in the design and construction of sports/community complex. The subject was choosen base on issues of timber and its utillization as a principle building material. It has been neglected and refered to as second class, 'low key' small scale construction material. Although timber has been the principal material for our traditional building at present it has not been fully exploited and overlooked due archiectural and engineering conceptuation on the so-called modern structural materials steel and concrete. It has also been ignored dud to allegation of lack of durabulity and fire resistance.
