Maktab Perguruan Islam is a teachers' training College, patronised by the Minister of Education, specifically aimed at training future teachers, in the field of teaching islamic religious studies to students in the primary and secondary schools. The education program and extra curricular activities covers all aspects of teacher training in line with the national educational policy. The Islamic College is one the few specialised colleges in the country, but practices similar basic curriculum as the other teachers' training colleges, only with grester emphasis on islamic studies. All the colleges have a standard three years full-time training program to include practical training in any of the government schools for a period of one term. Maktab Perguruan Islam was established in 1977, with a student population of approximately 700 students. The College was first located in Petaling Jaya but with the establishment of the new International Islamic University, the College premises was taken over by the new university, has resulted to the transfer of the College to its present temporary premises at Pantai Baru. It has to share its premises temporarily with two other Colleges namely the Maktab Perguruan Lembah Pantai and Maktab Perguruan Bahasa until its new campus in Bangi, Selangor is completed. The proposed new College design scheme is at present undertaken by the Minister of Public Works and due for completion in two years. The student has taken the opportunity to undertake this proposed scheme as a design exercise for a thesis proposal. The student has decided to propose a scheme based on design criterias of an institution of islamic character.
