The main objective of the Kuala Lumpur Transport Project is to make more efficient use of existing and planned transport facilities in the Kuala Lumpur area in which under the Public Transport system improvement - Minibus service was introduced to implement the stage bus. It is the aim of this thesis to evaluate the Minibus operation in the city of Kuala Lumpur and also to anlyse the problems encountered in its four years of operation. The Minibus service was introduced in August 1975 and viewing the problems faced by the system, therefore efforts should be made to solve the problems. In doing so, the writer tries to analyse the problems and to strike a balance of opinions between the authorities and the operators. The writer also tries to find out the public acceptance of the New Minibus System by interviewing one hundred and thirteen commuters in Kuala Lumpur. This thesis is considered only as a Preliminary Study towards a more comprehensive transportation engineering design of the system. Chapter one to Three discussed the problems faced by the public transportation system prior to the introduction of the minibus, why the Minibus Service was introduced? and the service characteristics. Chapter four discussed the problems faced by the Minibus System in its four years of operation and proposals prposed by the operators to solve the problems. Chapter five deals with Attitude Survey aims to find out the attitude of commuters toward the system and Chapter Six discussed the proposals to solve the overall problems of the Mini Bus System in Kuala Lumpur.
