Abstract:
Welding process is one of the manufacturing processes that joint two metals. Most of the welding processes that are being used nowadays are arc welding that includes Tungsten arc welding, Submerged arc welding, Gas metal arc welding, flux cored arc welding, etc. Arc welding is widely used because of their efficiency and reliability. Human's hand is flexible to carry out welding processes. However, there are some constraints that limit the used of manually such as consistency of welding quantity and safety. A flexible Welding System (FWS) is going to be designed to replace the human's arm in certain level of flexibility. Such welding system of course will not as flexible as a human's arm but it tends to do the welding jobs as flexible as it can. Concept of flexible Manufacturing System (FMS) is applied on FWS. The proposed FWS shows the combination of equipment for material handling, fixture, welding inspection and welding robot. The system is specially designed for batch production where various types of products can be welded successfully. All these equipments arc able to interact with each other. Welding process and procedure is handled efficiency. The controller can be reprogrammed whenever necessary.
