This project is carried out with the intention of creating a condition moonitoring system for a preventive maintenance program, to be used for the machinery onboard Perintis, a deep sea fishing vessel owned by Univerdity Teknologi Malaysia. Condition monitoring has shown a good track of records in various industries. The concept and management of a condition monitoring system together with the advantages of this type of maintenance program are explained. Vital informations for setting up an initial condition monitoringn system is also provided. Vibration tests were carried out in Chendering, Kuala Terengganu where the fishing vessel is situated and the outcome of the tests are discussed. The procedures followed during the tests are also provided. Further discussions were made on how vibration signatures could be used forfault detection and machinery health analysis. Many problems that one would expect while implementing this program is highlighted.
