The current tourist maps of Kuala Lumpur, designed and produced by various sources, are inefficient with respect to the communication between the cartographer and the map user. An analysis of graphic communication is therefore important. Principles in map design pertaining to the visual perception of colour and form can improve map communication. Various aspects of the design and production of the map were considered, after which the execution of this project began. Each stage of the process is discoussed in detail. Feedback from the map user to the cartographer is a method for improving map communication. A census of user feedback is therefore important. However a complete census requires a very elaborate experiment. This project results in a relatively efficient tourist map. unfortunately, partly due to difficulties and limitations which arose, an accurate analysis of the map is not possible.
